Affiliate marketing has become the most wanted career/business for online entrepreneurs. But you also need to be aware of some of the myths that surround affiliate marketing so that you know where you’re going.
One myth that you shouldn’t listen to is that there is only one kind of affiliate marketing. If you want to make it to the top of the affiliate food chain then you have to promote in different formats. Mastering different formats one at a time is a sure formula for success as an affiliate marketer. Of course, each of these have their own set of rules. Small differences like getting paid for having someone fill out a form (pay per lead) or actually sending someone to a merchant where they make a purchase (pay per sale) will take a different approach. Your success with any particular affiliate program will all boil down to your passion or your determination to succeed. People have different abilities so PPC may be easier for you but will result in failure for another affiliate marketer. No matter what you decide to do, your success will be determined by how well you learn and are able to apply it. Pay per sale is a good model to begin with; they are easy to join and will give you the chance to hone your skills. Stick to learning the fundamentals very well and you too will be able to earn more than the majority of affiliates in the industry. Take the time to learn what you need to learn then apply it. Don’t just focus on the profits, but make sure your efforts are based on your testing, which tells you what works and what doesn’t. A myth that is very prevalent says that you must have a site that is loaded with content if you plan to succeed with affiliate marketing. This can’t be further from the truth, minisites have a small amount of content and are very prosperous. Ignore the quantity of your content and focus on making it as relevant as possible. A common method that is used is to add dozens and even hundreds of niche articles to a site and have a banner in place that links to the affiliate product. But you’d get even more sales if you just personally review the affiliate product, instead of just depending on the hope that people would click on your banner. And of course, we all know that the content has to be about the product. You can start off by writing reviews and then move on to other types of content.
Also, flashy banners are no longer impressive but are tasteless and set off alarms in your visitor’s heads. This is a myth that you really need to watch out for because it simply doesn’t work. If you need a better understanding of how to build an affiliate site then pick up a landing page optimization book. Your main focus is to develop targeted content that is designed to make your readers take the next step in the conversion process.
These myths may seem harmless but the minute that you let them creep into your mind they will start to affect your decisions and behavior.
